From a personality point of view, I find the Chicago Sky the least likable team in the WNBA. Angel Reese is a publicity hound and Chennedy Carter is a dirty player who makes inarticulate stupid comments about Caitlin Clark when she does say something. The Sky, in my view, is a classless team that has an unattractive thuggery to their game.
But when it comes to betting, personal feelings are put aside. The Sky are in a great situational spot to cover this game. So I'll be backing them.
Reese and Co. won't lack motivation to take on the two-team defending WNBA champion Aces. The Sky's young, promising roster are anxious to prove themselves. They catch the Aces in a letdown spot returning home after three road games - all victories - that concluded this past Sunday in Washington.
The Aces have been crisscrossing the country playing at Seattle, Atlanta and Washington since last Wednesday. This will be their fourth game in seven days. So not only is there a heavy fatigue factor against the Aces, but also a mental factor, too, having not been back home in a week. Chicago, on the other hand, has been idle since Saturday.
This is the final game for these teams before the month-long Olympic break. They won't play again until mid-August. The Aces have four players headed to the Olympics so focus could be a problem. That's not good for a team that is laying this many points. Las Vegas has covered only 43 percent this season because of often being overpriced like today.
The Sky is not devoid of talent with Reese, Carter - who to her credit is having a breakthrough season averaging 16.4 points - Marina Mabrey and promising center Kamilla Cardosa. Thanks to Reese and Cardosa, the Sky are the No. 1 offensive rebounding team in the WNBA.
(Editor's note: Stephen Nover is 35-20-1 on his WNBA premium/free plays this season entering today for 64 percent. Stephen has two premium WNBA plays today in addition to this free selection, including his Play of the Week.)
