Money Line: -118.00 Tigers (DET) (Home)
Now the Orioles' worst starter currently in their rotation, Brandon Young, draws the assignment of trying to beat the Tigers on the road and emerging star Casey Mize.
The 26-year-old Young made his big league debut at home against the Reds last Saturday. It did not go well. Young gave up three runs on seven hits and three walks in four innings. Baltimore quickly optioned Young back to the minors following that. However, another Baltimore pitching injury forced the Orioles to bring Young back to make a start here.
The price is low enough to back the improved Tigers, who are tied for the best record in the American League at 15-10.
Detroit has outstanding pitching. Mize, a former No. 1 overall pick, is two years removed from major surgery and living up to his high potential. He is 3-1 with a 2.22 ERA and 0.95 WHIP. Mize is backed by an effective mix-and-match Detroit relief staff that has the second-lowest ERA in the American League at 2.70.
The Tigers' bullpen is rested, too, after being idle on Thursday. The Orioles had to use up their bullpen in nipping the Nationals on the road, 2-1, on Thursday. The Orioles' bullpen is tied for the second-highest ERA in the American League with the White Sox at 4.48.
(Editor's note: Stephen Nover's Friday card is headed by his MLB Total of the Month. Stephen is 8-1 on his premium/free baseball totals this season. Stephen also is 7-2 on his last nine NBA sides plays and 4-1 on his Stanley Cup plays. He has NBA and NHL plays today.)
