Calgary can get by missing suspended defenseman Dennis Wideman. But it's much more difficult when the Flames could likely be minus TJ Brodie, too. He's the Flames' top defenseman averaging a team-high 25:08 minutes per game. He injured his knee in the Flames' 4-1 victory against Carolina two nights ago. He didn't practice on Thursday and is unlikely to play today.
The Flames would be forced to give Jakub Nakladal his first NHL start in place of Brodie leaving Calgary's defense thin and inexperienced. Columbus has scored 13 goals in its last four games.
Both teams are off victories. The Blue Jackets are 6-1 over the total the past seven times following a win. Columbus gives up the second-most goals in the league.
The Blue Jackets have been down to using third-string rookie Joonas Korpisalo, who had been performing well until giving up four second-period goals in a 5-1 loss to the Oilers this past Tuesday following the All-Star break. Korpisalo bounced back with a strong game in the Blue Jackets' 2-1 shootout win against Vancouver making 37 saves. There is a strong possibility Korpisalo will be rested meaning Anton Forsberg would make his first appearance since surrendering five goals in a 5-2 loss to the Islanders on Jan. 12.
Calgary has scored 15 goals in its last four games. The over is 8-1-2 in Calgary's last 11 games versus Eastern Conference opponents. The teams just met on Jan. 21 and there were six goals scored in the Flames' 4-2 victory.
