(MLB) NY Mets vs. San Francisco,
Money Line: -114.00 NY Mets (Away)
Result: Win
Yes, I know all about the Mets' offense, or lack of it. They've been held to two runs or less 34 times this season and have gone 10 consecutive games without a home run. The Mets will hold the longest homerless streak of the season if they don't hit a homer today.

But I can't resist backing Jacob deGrom against Jake Peavy. This is a case of a rising, elite pitcher going against a once-outstanding but now past-his-prime pitcher.

Matt Harvey isn't the Mets' best pitcher. It's deGrom, who is 5-2 with a 1.55 ERA during his last nine starts.

The Giants aren't playing well losing seven of their past eight. Peavy is making only his second start since returning from a back injury. San Francisco is 0-6 in Peavy's last six starts.

Before going down with the back injury, Peavy was 0-2 with a 9.39 ERA. Then working his way back up in the minors, Peavy was 0-3 with a 6.12 ERA.

Hunter Pence has returned for the Giants. That's a nice boost for San Francisco. But the Giants still are minus leadoff hitter Nori Aoki and Angel Pagan is having trouble running due to a swollen left knee. He has only one extra-base hit in his last 23 games.

The Mets' bullpen also gets a huge boost with the return of Jenrry Mejia from suspension. He's New York's second best reliever in back of closer Jeurys Familia.
