(MLB) Tampa Bay vs. Houston,
Money Line: -151.00 Houston (Home)
Result: Loss
The set-up: The Tampa Bay Rays were blasted 14-7 by the Atsros on Monday night but have rebounded to win 6-4 on Tuesday and then again last night, by the score of 3-0. The Rays now look to take this four-game series by beating the injury-plagued Houston Astros Thursday night. The 56-53 Rays now trail the Royals by just a half-game for the second wild-card spot in the American League. Houston still leads the AL with 69 victories (and owns a commanding 15 game lead in the AL West) but the Astros are just 2-5 over their last seven games, while going only 9-9 since the All Star break.

The pitching matchup: Blake Snell (0-6 & 4.87 ERA) takes the mound for Tampa Bay and Collin McHugh (0-0 & 4.22 ERA) for Houston. Snell has pitched better since returning from a stint in the minor leagues (has allowed nine ERs over 21 1/3 innings for a 3.80 ERA) but is still looking for his first victory since notching six as a rookie in 2016. Snell allowed three runs over five innings in a no-decision against Houston back on April 22 and is 0-1 with a 7.88 ERA in two career starts vs. the Astros (Rays are 1-1). McHugh recorded a quality start in his second appearance of the season Saturday at Detroit when he permitted one run on four hits with seven strikeouts over six innings of a no-decision. This came after he gave up four runs on four hits (two HRs) over 4 2/3 innings in his 2017 debut July 22 at Baltimore. McHugh owns a 2.52 ERA in four career starts vs. the Rays but somehow is 0-4.

The pick: McHugh debuted July 22 at Baltimore after missing the first 96 games with an elbow injury and tossed 77 pitches against the Orioles. He extended himself to 82 pitches over six innings against the Tigers in Detroit seven days later and has now moved beyond any restrictions. McHugh has yet to record a decision over two starts in 2017 (team is 1-1) but he takes the mound have gone unbeaten in his last 11 starts dating back to last season (he's 6-0 and the team 9-2!). Compare that to Snell, who has seen the Rays go 3-10 in his 2017 starts (minus-$748). Make Houston an 8* play.
