(MLB) LA Dodgers vs. San Diego,
Total: 7.50 | -125.00 Under
Result: Win
The set-up: The Dodgers won 6-2 last night behind Clayrton Kershaw in Anaheim and now travel a little further south for a three-game weekend series in San Diego against the Padres. LA is currently in the midst of a 20-game stretch of games in California and so far, has gone 9-2 through the first 11. The Dodgers own the NL's best record at 53-28 and also own MLB's best home record (33-11). San Diego is just 33-46 on the season (19 games back of the Dodgers) but has taken two of three from both the Tigers and Braves here on this homestand and hope to win three straight series for the first time this season against the Dodgers (tall order?).

The pitching matchup: Alex Wood (8-0 & 1.86 ERA) takes the mound for LA and Clayton Richard (5-7 & 4.42 ERA) for SD. Wood has been a godsend. Not since Fernando Valenzuela won eight straight to begin the 1981 season has a Dodgers hurler accomplished what Wood has done. He's also the first Dodger since Orel Hershiser in 1985 to remain unbeaten 11 starts into a season (note: team is 0-3 in his no-decisions). Wood is coming off a victory over Colorado last Friday in which he gave up one run and three hits over six innings. Wood is 2-1 with a 2.19 ERA in nine career appearances (five starts / teams are 2-3) against San Diego, including a scoreless two-inning relief outing on April 5. Richard escaped with a no-decision against Detroit on Sunday after surrendering five runs on nine hits in 5 1/3 innings. He has however, won his last three decisions at home, tossing his first complete game since 2012 on May 21 against Arizona and falling one out shy of another on June 13 versus Cincinnati. Richard owns a 7-5 record and 3.69 ERA in 21 career games (19 starts / teams are 12-7) versus the Padres. He's split a pair of decisions against them in 2017.

The pick: The Dodgers are averaging 5.15 RPG and San Diego has averaged 4.33 RPG on this homestand (4-2). Wood has pitched over his head and this total is simply too low. Make the Over a 10* play.
