Rogers' 10* SURE SHOT
(NHL) Philadelphia vs. Arizona,
Money Line: 100.00 Philadelphia (Away)
Result: Loss
The set-up: The Flyers opened their season with a 4-2 win last night in LA over the Kings and now visit Phoenix to take on the Coyotes, a team playing its season-opener (Arizona was 35-39-8 & 4th in Pacific last season).

Philadelphia: The Flyers are hoping to build on last season's surprising playoff berth that was achieved by going 12-5-3 in their final 20 games. Philadelphia got off on the right foot last night, opening with that 4-2 win in Los Angeles. The victory ended a four-game, opening-night losing streak. Philadelphia debuted two rookies against the Kings with left winger Travis Konecny (two assists) and defenseman Ivan Provorov (one assist). Michal Neuvirth was in goal and stopped 23 of 25 shots on goal.

Arizona: The Coyotes are looking to end a four-year playoff drought, as Arizona has failed to qualify for the playoffs every season since 2011-12, when it advanced all the way to the Western Conference finals before falling to Los Angeles in five games. Arizona coach Dave Tippet, who has coached for 14 seasons after playing for 12, expects to start four rookies. He was quoted as saying he can't remember the last time he started four rookies in an NHL season opener.

The pick: Goalie Steve Mason is expected to start for Philadelphia against the Coyotes and he was 23-19-10 with a 2.51 GAA and .918 save percentage last season. His opposite number will be Mike Smith, who was 15-13-2 with a 2.63 GAA and .916 save percentage last season. Neither are stars. The Coyotes may be 7-2 all-time when opening the season at home but with a game under its belt (a confidence-builder last night in LA), Philadelphia is the 10* play.
