Cleveland is red hot, coming into Friday's game against Detroit as winners of 11 of their last 15. They face a hot pitcher here tonight though. We could see a pitcher's duel at Progressive Field in Game 2, and I think the number looks a little too high.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Pitching - The Tigers will send Justin Verlander to the mound, and he's looking like he's turned back the clock the last several weeks. Verlander (3-7, 3.43 ERA) allowed three runs on seven hits over seven innings in a home loss to Cleveland in his latest start. Prior to that he had won back-to-back starts, including a complete game one-hit shutout win at home over the Angels. The Indians counter with rookie Cody Anderson, who shutout the Tigers through seven innings in Detroit opposite Verlander last week.
2. Home Cookin' - The Indians have had trouble scoring runs in Cleveland, ranking 20th overall in the majors in runs scored at home. They've failed to reach the total in four of their last five versus a right-handed starter.
3. X-Factor - Jason Kipnis is really struggling for the Tribe, batting just .156 in September. He's just 4-for-39 with 13 strikeouts lifetime versus Verlander.
Selection: This is a play on the Tigers@Indians to go UNDER the total (10*)
