The Minnesota Twins came into this series against the Tampa Bay Rays on the back of a four-game sweep at Baltimore and they claimed the opener 11-7 last night. The Rays are looking good to bounce back with a win tonight though as they should have a massive advantage on the mound.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Pitching - The Twins hand the ball to their 24 year old rookie Tyler Duffey (2-1, 4.60 ERA) who'll make his fourth start in the big leagues. He allowed only two runs in 7 2/3 innings of a 15-2 win at Camden Yards his last start, but it could have been much worse as he yielded 10 hits. He's allowed a total of eight runs on 16 hits and seven walks over 15 2/3 innings his three starts combined. The Rays will counter with their ace Chris Archer (11-9, 2.77 ERA) who's off nine innings of one-hit ball at Houston. Archer held Minnesota to one run on four hits in six innings of an 11-3 road-win on May 17 and he has the current members of the Twins limited to a .200 batting average.
2. Situational - The Rays have won each of Archer's last four starts versus the Twins and they're 6-2 in his last eight starts as a home favorite. The home team is 7-1 in umpire Jordan Bakers last eight games behind home plate and the Twins have lost five of their last seven with Baker calling the shots.
3. X-Factor - Minnesota's Brian Dozier had a homer with two RBI last night and is riding a five-game hitting streak. He's however 0-for-10 in previous meetings with Archer.
Selection: This is a play on the Tampa Bay Rays (8*)
