The Houston Astros are four games clear at the top of the AL West and they've won five of their last six coming off a three-game sweep of the Dodgers. The New York Yankees meanwhile took just one of a four-game series against the Tribe and have found themselves overtaken for the AL East lead by the surging Blue Jays. This game is of far more importance for the Yankees and I think it will show on the scoreboard at the end of the day.
Here are my keys ot the game:
1. Pitching - The Astros hand the ball to Scott Feldman (5-5, 4.05 ERA) who's undefeated over his last five starts and 1-1 with a 2.87 ERA in six starts since returning from the disabled list. This will be quite a challenge for the 32 year old though; The current members of the Yankees have a combined batting average of .290 against him with Stephen Drew going 6-for-13 with a pair of doubles and homers and Jacob Ellsbury going 5-for-16. The Yankees will counter with Nathan Eovaldi (13-2, 4.24) who is 8-0 with a 3.29 ERA in his last 11 starts. He's an undefeated 5-0 behind a 3.46 ERA over 11 starts in the Bronx on the season and he has the current members of the Astros limited to a .228 batting average.
2. Road Woes - Houston has won just three of its last 15 road games against a right-handed starter and it's 1-7 in Feldman's last eight starts as a road underdog of +110 to +150. The Yankees have won seven of the last 10 meetings at Yankee Stadium.
3. X-Factor - Only the Dodgers and their .176 batting average is worse than the Astros' .216 mark over the last seven days.
