The Atlanta Braves lost 3-2 in extra-innings in the first game of this three game series in Pittsburgh last night, and I wouldn't be surprised to see another pitcher's duel here today. The Pirates have lost five of their last seven, and both of their wins during that span came in one-run ballgames. In fact five of Pittsburgh's last 10 overall have been decided by a single run.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Pitching - Julio Teheran will get the start for the Braves, and he's coming off a real gem in his last outing. Teheran (5-3, 4.67 ERA) threw seven shutout innings, surrendering just one hit in a 1-0 win over the Mets. Granted he's been better at home, but the right-hander is 2-0 with a 2.89 ERA in his last five starts versus Pittsburgh. The Pirates counter with Charlie Morton, who is coming off a terrible performance, giving up nine runs on eight hits, failing to get out of the first inning.
2. Batter vs. Pitcher - The Braves lineup is hitting a combined .308 in previous meetings with Morton, and the right-hander allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings in his only start versus Atlanta this season.
3. X-Factor - The Braves are 10-1 in Teheran's last 11 starts vs. the National League Central.
Selection: This is a play on the Atlanta Braves +1.5 (8*)
