The Detroit Tigers had the day off yesterday, as their game in Cincinnati was postponed due to rain. They will be in the Bronx tonight, taking on the Yankees who have won six of their last seven home games. While the Tigers have been struggling, they could get a boost with the return of Victor Martinez.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Pitching - Justin Verlander will get the nod for Detroit, making his second start of the season. The veteran was solid in his debut, giving up two runs on three hits in five innings versus Cleveland. The Yankees counter with Adam Warren, who has struggled with his command in recent outings. Warren (4-4, 3.78 ERA) gave up three runs on six hits and three walks over just 4.2 innings at Baltimore in his last start. He's walked 11 in his last four starts.
2. Batter vs Pitcher - The Yankee lineup has hit just .218 versus Verlander, with more strikeouts (44) than hits (38). Teixeira and Beltran are a combined 4-for-43 with 15 punchouts.
3. X-Factor - Miguel Cabrera is hitting .342 with 15 home runs and 51 RBIs, and he's 11-for-22 with three homers and a dozen RBIs over the last seven days.
Selection: This is a play on the Detroit Tigers + 1.5 (8*)
