The Los Angeles Angels are returning home to Anaheim from a lengthy road-trip on the back of consecutive losses at Boston. The San Diego Padres meanwhile defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-3 last night, and I like their chances of recording an upset tonight as well.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Pitching - The Padres will hand the ball to Tyson Ross (2-4, 3.93 ERA) who's had a solid season so far. He's allowed two runs or less in five of his nine starts on the year and although he's 0-2 over five road-starts its behind a respectable 3.34 ERA. He's 1-1 with a 1.78 ERA over eight appearances (four starts) against the Angels in his career. The Angels will counter with Jered Weaver (3-4, 4.37 ERA) who's been rather inconsistent this season. He's conceded four runs or more in four of his nine starts and has given up one homer per game on average.
2. Situational - The Angels are 1-5 in their last six home games following a road trip of seven or more days and have lost five of their last seven of Weaver's starts when their opponent scored five runs or more in their previous game.
3. X-Factor - Tyson Ross has the current members of the Angels limited to a .081 batting average over 37 at bats with Erick Aybar going 0-for-12.
Selection: This is a play on the San Diego Padres +1.5 (8*)
