The Chicago Cubs took Game 2 of this series in San Diego last night, and they've now won seven of their last nine overall. The Cubs will look to pile on here at PETCO in Game 3, as the Padres hand the ball to a struggling young right-hander.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Pitching - Odrisamer Despaigne will be on the mound for the Padres, and he was hammered by the Nationals in a home loss in his most recent outing. Despaigne (2-2, 6.75 ERA) has not found it any easier in San Diego than on the road this year, as he's allowed 12 runs on 16 hits over 17.1 innings in five appearances at home so far. The Cubs hand the ball to 25 year old Kyle Hendricks, and his best start of the year so far came in a win over the Padres.
2. Kris Bryant - The 23 year old had a hit and an RBI last night, and he's riding a nine game hitting streak, with three home runs and eight RBIs during that span.
3. X-Factor - Chicago's bullpen has been their biggest weakness in recent seasons, and it is only slightly improved this year. That being said, the Padres relievers rank significantly worse (27th in the majors) with a 4.66 ERA.
