The Tampa Bay Rays opened the season by losing two of three against the Baltimore Orioles, but they're coming in hot here having won six of their last eight, a 2-0 win at Camden Yards in the opener of a three game set last night included. Baltimore had won three straight prior, but I it'll have to prepare for another defeat tonight.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Pitching - Chris Archer (3-2, 0.83 ERA) who will toe the slab for the Archer to start off tonight's contest allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits over 5 2/3 innings against the Orioles in his season opener. He's not allowed a single earned run since though, giving up just 12 hits over 26 2/3 innings while going 3-1 over four starts. Baltimore will counter with Miguel Gonzalez (2-1, 3.42 ERA) who held the Rays to one run on three overs 5 2/3 innings in his start of the year. He has been hit rather hard of late though, surrendering seven runs on 13 hits with three homers while hurling 11 innings over his last two starts.
2. Road Warriors - Tampa Bay is 10-1 in Archer's last 11 road starts and 7-3 in its last 10 away from home overall. Baltimore meanwhile is 0-4 in Gonzalez's last four starts as a home underdog.
3. X-Factor - The Rays Evan Longoria knocked in his fifth run of the season last night and is 15-for-35 over his last nine contests.
Selection: This is a play on the Tampa Bay Rays (10*)
