"The Coach's" MLB Late Show SPECIAL
(MLB) NY Mets vs. NY Yankees,
Money Line: -134.00 NY Yankees (Home)
Result: Win
Money Line: -134.00 NY Yankees (Home)
Result: Win
The New York Yankees are hosting local-rival the New York Mets for the rubber-match of a three game set in Sunday's lone late game in the major leagues. Both teams are coming in hot, but I'm looking for the Yankees to come in with an axe to grind after Saturday's 8-2 loss, and I think they'll bounce back with a win tonight.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Pitching - The Mets will hand the ball to southpaw Jonathon Niese (2-0, 1.50 ERA) who's off three strong outings on the season. He's shown some control issues though, giving up 12 walks over 18 innings of work. He also seems to struggle against accomplished opponents as the Mets are just 3-13 in hits last 16 starts against a team with a winning record. The Yankees will counter with Nathan Eovaldi (1-0, 3.12 ERA) who's started the season with three strong outings as well. His last one was a particularly good one as he hurled seven innings in a 5-2 win at Detroit, surrendering only one run on eight hits.
2. Situational - The Yankees are 6-2 in their last eight games versus a left-handed starter and 5-1 in their last six coming in as a favorite. The Mets are 1-4 in Niese's last five starts as an underdog of +110 to +150.
3. X-Factor - Mark Teixeira has five hits with three homers over eight at bats so far in this set and is 3-for-8 against Niese lifetime.
Selection: This is a play on the New York Yankees (8*)
