The Detroit Tigers won their home opener, defeating the Twins by a score of 4-0 on Opening Day. Game 2 will be an afternoon start in the Motor City, and the home team is a big favorite to come away with another win. I think we'll see Detroit lay another beating on a Minnesota team that isn't expected to be very competitive this season.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Pitching - Ricky Nolasco will be on the hill for the visitors, and he had a rough season in 2014. He was even less effective on the road than he was at home, going 3-6 with a 6.27 ERA in 14 appearances. His numbers in day games were also pretty ugly, with a record of 2-7 and a 7.78 ERA in 11 starts in the afternoon. The Tigers will counter with Anibal Sanchez, who was roughed up in his final outing during spring training.
2. Batter vs. Pitcher - Victor Martinez was 1-for-4 in Game 1 of this series, and he's 5-for-7 lifetime versus Nolasco.
3. X-Factor - Yoenis Cespedes wasted no time making his mark in Detroit, with a double, triple and two runs scored on Opening Day.
Selection: This is a play on the Detroit Tigers RL
