The Boston Bruins are coming off five consecutive victories as they're about to take the ice at the Verizon Center tonight to do battle with the Washington Capitals. The Caps have shut out the Bruins in both of the previous meetings on the season, but Boston should get the better of the hosts here in what I expect to be a tight low-scoring contest.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Tuukka Rask - The 28 year old Finn has been on fire of late, going undefeated over his last five outings surrendering only a total of six goals. His goaltending is a big reason why the under is 2-0-2 in the Bruins last four overall, and Rask always gives his team a chance to pick up the two points when tending the net.
2. The Bruins Way - Boston is currently sitting eighth in the East, tied on points with Ottawa in ninth and with a game in hand. The more defensive mentality needed for playoff hockey has already creeped into the team and perhaps the Bruins defenseman Torey Krug says it best: "We're not going to give up many goals and that's what it takes to win hockey games right now. That's how the Boston Bruins win hockey games, by not giving up more than a couple of goals." Goals are surely not going to come easy for the Caps tonight.
3. X-Factor - Washington has struggled to create scoring opportunities over its recent games and has averaged less than 25 shots per game over its last four.
Selection: This is a play on BOS@WAS to go under the total (8*)
