The Calgary Flames are back on home ice after a rather successful road trip which saw them win three of the last four games, and I like their chances of building on that momentum against the Western Conference worst Arizona Coyotes tonight. The Yotes are off a 5-3 victory against the Sharks but they're a lowly 2-8 in their last 10 following a win, and now then they've made themselves worthy of this month's salary I expect them to get back to their losing ways again.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. The Flames Goaltending Situation - The Flames have divided their goaltending responsibilities equal between Karri Ramo and Jonas Hiller since the All Star break with both making 16 starts each. I'm not sure that would be an ideal solution for the upcoming playoffs, and as Ramo came off the ice with a lower body injury after only 58 seconds in Saturday's 4-0 win at Edmonton this could be Hiller's chance to prove he should be the #1 goaltender going into the post-season. A strong performance tonight would go a long way, and I like his chances as he's a perfect 7-0 with a 1.97 GAA over his last seven starts against the Yotes.
2. Road Woes - The Coyotes have dropped sevens straight meetings in Calgary and have won only one of their last seven on the road when facing a team with a winning home record. The Flames fits the bill there as they're a respectable 21-13-5 at the Saddledome on the season.
3. X-Factor - Sean Monohan has four goals and three assists over a six game point streak against the Coyotes and has three goals and six assists over his last nine overall.
Selection: This is a play on the Calgary Flames -1.5(10*)
