The Gonzaga Bulldogs sit in first place in the WCC, three games up on second placed St. Mary's. They look to extend their perfect 14-0 conference record as they head to Stockton to take on the Pacific Tigers tonight. The home team is just 2-12 against conference foes this season, but I expect them to be competitive at home tonight.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Situational/Motivational - The Bulldogs are playing in a league of their own in the West Coast Conference, but at this point in the season it becomes difficult to find the motivation to bring 100% intensity versus inferior opposition. This is evidenced by their sloppy play over a four game stretch that saw them fail to cover the spread in all but one of their last four games.
2. Home Cookin' - The Tigers haven't exactly been winning many games at home, but they have been far more competitive in Stockton than they have been on the road. They lost their last home game in overtime by a score of 76-71 to Loyola Marymount, lost a close one to Pepperdine 50-43 prior to that, and defeated the San Diego Toreros 59-57 on January 17. With only two home games remaining on the schedule, they should be all fired up for tonight's game.
3. X-Factor - Gonzaga has failed to cover in five straight on the road, and four of it's last five versus teams with a losing record.
Selection: This is a play on the Pacific Tigers (8*)
