The Coach's Monday SURE SHOT
(NHL) Calgary vs. San Jose,
Money Line: -152.00 San Jose (Home)
Result: Loss
Money Line: -152.00 San Jose (Home)
Result: Loss
The San Jose Sharks and the Calgary Flames will meet in a big Pacific Division matchup. The Sharks are coming off a 5-4 upset loss at home to the Hurricanes while the Flames were shut out 4-0 by the Penguins in their last game. This game means a lot to both teams as the second seed and subsequently a wild card playoff spot is going to be decided by these meetings by seasons' end. The Flames have got the better of the Sharks this season but don't expect that last into this game. The home side will come out on top.
Here are my keys to the game
The Sharks revenge- Calgary has won the first two meetings between these teams. The cream is going to rise to top at some point here. The Sharks are as talented as-or more talented than the young Flames on paper. San Jose is 16-11 in revenge games this season.
San Jose urgency- The pressure is far higher on the San Jose end as this is a veteran team that is expected to make the playoffs. Getting home ice is a nice advantage as the Sharks have 14 wins at home this season. "We've got a stretch run here, said Sharks' star Logan Couture, we're going to need to win a lot of games to get into the playoffs. We've got some big games coming up."
X-Factor- The Sharks' leading scorer Joe Pavelski has 30 points in 35 games versus the Sharks and is very dangerous in power play situations. The Flames rank just 25th in the NHL in penalty killing rankings.
Selection: This is a play on the San Jose Sharks. (8*)
