This looks like a good spot to back the New York Mets as their surge for a postseason berth continues. The Mets have won five of their last seven and they've scored plenty of runs during that stretch. Philadelphia meanwhile has been outscored 41-10 during a four game slide and I don't see them keeping up with the super motivated Mets tonight.
Robert Gsellman (3-2, 2.56 ERA) has allowed just a pair of runs through 18 innings in his last three starts combined. He tossed seven scoreless innings of three-hit ball in a 17-0 rout of Philadelphia on Sept. 25 his last time out.
Alec Asher (2-0, 1.66) will take the ball for the Phillies. He got the decision in a 10-8 win against the Mets at Citi Field on Sept. 24, even though he was knocked around for four runs through five frames. I don't think he'll be quite as lucky tonight.
Mets are 20-6 in their last 26 games following an off day and they'll be rested and motivated. No excuses for the Mets, this is a game they should and will win.
