The 3-2 San Francisco 49ers get ready to battle the 1-3 St. Louis Rams on Monday night; while the outright win isn't out of the question in my opinion, I will in the end recommend grabbing as many points as you can in this one. The 49ers lost their first two games to Chicago and Arizona before then rebounding to beat Philadelphia and Kansas City at home. So far the road hasn't been as kind to San Francisco though and I think it will have its hands full today in what I feel is an underrated home side. St. Louis knows what to expect today, a heavy dose of the run; the 49ers are third in the league in averaging 145 rushing yards per game, while the Rams are tied for 29th in allowing 152.5. But motivation and determination are two things which the bookmakers always have a hard time properly quantifying into a line, and that's the case here in my opinion; to say this is a "revenge" game would be a bit of an understatement as San Francisco has gone 13-4-1 in the series of late. Also note that the Rams will certainly be the "hungrier" team as well after back-to-back dishearting losses; two weeks ago St. Louis blew a 21-point first-half lead in a 34-31 loss to Dallas, only to then come out of its bye week to fall 34-28 at Philly last Sunday. However, the Rams can't be displeased with the way they closed out against the Eagles, down 34-7, rookie QB Austin Davis would then help produce the final 21 points. Note that Davis finished 29 of 49 for 375 yards and three TD's (and this was against the same Philadelphia team which just shut out a red hot Eli Manning and New York Giants club last night). Davis has shown a lot of poise after getting thrust into the spotlight early due to injuries, he's thrown six TD's and two INT's in the last two games. The 49ers run game and defense look stout, but in my opinion, it feels like starting QB Colin Kaepernick continues to struggle with consistency; and the exact same can be said of his receivers. I think St. Louis comes out the aggressor here and makes San Francisco play "its" game; I also think the Rams defense could be in for a big day vs. what I feel to be a very one dimensional offense; play on ST. LOUIS.
