A couple of the league's best pitchers go head to head in the opener of the NLCS, but when the smoke clears at the end of this one, I expect this total to eclipse the tiny number. These teams have a lot of recent playoff history together and emotions will be high. St. Louis is in the NLCS for the fourth straight year and is seeking its third World Series trip in that span. San Francisco is in the NLCS for the third time in five seasons and took the Series in 2010 and 2012. Madison Bumgarer has gone 1-1 with a 1.13 ERA in two postseason starts, but he'll now face a lineup which feasted on lefties in the division series, clobbering Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw twice; note that the Cards totaled five home runs off lefties in that last series. Adam Wainwright faltered badly in the division series opener himself as his matchup with Kershaw ended with a 10-9 final score. A great situational play in my opinion, the stage is set for an exciting opening game that I expect to go OVER the posted number.
