(NCAAF) Fresno State vs. New Mexico,
Total: 71.50 | -110.00 Over
Result: Win
This is an 8* SUPER TOTAL on the UNDER between Fresno State and New Mexico.

It's the conference opener for Fresno State and New Mexico and both team's are coming off their first victories of the season. The Bulldogs would hammer FCS school Southern Utah last week, but previous to that had been very unimpressive with three losses over 30 points. The Lobos would be New Mexico State last week, but have also looked poor overall in losing a close one to UTEP and a beatdown at the hands of Arizona State. When these teams played last year, Fresno State demolished New Mexico 69-28 and today's contest represents just the second meeting between the schools as conference foes. But that was then, and this is now; note that Fresno State obviously doesn't have QB Derek Carr in its lineup, so will have to be careful of the revenge factor here. This can still be a high-scoring shootout and stay below this sky-high total and for a number of different reasons, I feel that's exactly what will happen. New Mexico will name its starting QB closer to kick-off, as it could be either Cole Gautsche, Lamar Jordan or Clayton Mitchem. Gautsche started last week but had to sit the second half with a hamstring injury and is questionable here. Jordan drove his team for the game winning TD last week, but he's still young and the coaching staff is unsure if he's ready for the fulltime job quite yet. The Lobos are also down to their second string RB as Teriyon Gipson is injured; his replacement Crusoe Gongbay had 139 yards vs. the porous Aggies defense. On the other side of the ball, note that Dakota Cox was named the MW Defensive Player of the week after recording 18 tackles and his first career INT last week (and note that Cox actually leads the Mountain West in averaging 15 tackles per game). The Lobos are averaging 349.7 yards per game on the ground, but now face a Fresno State defense which is giving up just 176 rushing; this will be crucial, the Bulldogs know that they must slow down the run to control this game (note that they held New Mexicto to just 168 yards on the ground last year). Fresno State also has a strong run game, Marteze Waller is coming off his first 100 yard game and is averaging 5.4 yards per carry. And that's what this game will come down to, whoever controls possession will ultimately win this contest. Note the Fresno State has seen the total dip below the number in nine of its last seven vs. conference opponents and when playing with six days or less of rest. And note that Nex Mexico has seen the total go UNDER the number in 11 of its last 21 when playing with six days of rest. I believe that the situation, the numbers and the trends all indeed point to the UNDER as the sharp wager in this one.
