This is a 10* SUPER TOTAL on the UNDER between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Philadelphia Phillies.
After a high-scoring shootout Friday, I think these teams play to a lower-scoring pitchers duel in this one. I had the UNDER in yesterday's contest, it would turn out to be a bad call as St. Louis ace Adam Wainwright was rocked in the 5-4 setback. Shelby Miller (8-9, 4.25 ERA) will be called upon to "right the ship"; Miller has had an up and down season thus far, showing flashes of brilliance at times. The Phillies have long been out of the playoff hunt, but improved to 3-1 on their nine-game homestand, they'd rally from an early three-run hole to clinch it. The home side sends David Buchanan (6-7, 4.25 ERA) to the hill; Buchanan has been as solid as you could expect from a rookie this year, he'd give up three runs over 6 2/3's innings in his team's 5-2 setback to the Giants on Sunday. A date vs. the Cards is just what the doctor ordered for Buchanan though, he limited them to just a single run off four scattered hits in a season-best 7 2/3's innings back in June. I look for Miller and Buchanan to battle into the latter frames and believe that the situation, the numbers and the trends all point to the UNDER as the sharp wager in this one.
