Money Line: -115.00 Detroit (Away)
Result: Win
Money Line: -115.00 Detroit (Away)
Result: Win
This is an 8* PITCHING MISMATCH on the Detroit Tigers.
Max Scherzer comes in with considerable momentum and I think the reigning Cy Young Award winner will outduel his younger counterpart tonight, great value here. Scherzer (14-4, 2.98 ERA) has an opportunity to become the first AL pitcher to win 15 games. No big surprise to learn that he's 6-1 with a 1.78 ERA over his last ten starts overall. Most recently Scherzer went eight scoreless innings, scattering three hits and striking out a season-high 14 to win 5-2 over the Pirates on Thursday. Scherzer faced the Rays on July 3rd, he gave up one run off two hits while striking out seven over eight frames in his team's 8-1 victory; the hard-throwing right hander has won four-straight vs. Tampa Bay and owns a very respectable 2.25 ERA vs. them lifetime. The home side counters with Chris Archer (8-6, 3.24 ERA) who gave up one run off four hits over seven frames in his team's 10-1 destruction of the Rangers on Wednesday. Archer has had success vs. the Tigers in the past, but I think runs into a buzzsaw today, Detroit gave up ground in the wild-card battle with Seattle by dropping two of three to the M's over the weekend and will be highly motivated to "right the ship" in this favorable matchup. The Rays have been struggling at the plate of late, they managed just five hits and batted just .205 in their 1-2 series loss vs. the Yanks. In my humble opinion, this is the very definition of "great line value"; play on DETROIT.
