Total: 49.50 | -105.00 Over
Result: Win
This is an 8* ASSASSIN on the UNDER between the Chicago Bears and the San Diego Chargers.
Both teams have struggled this year, but each has looked better of late, when the smoke clears at the end of this one, we expect this total to fall below the posted number. A great situational play here: Chicago comes to town without the services of running back Matt Forte; Forte is key in the offense, as he keeps opposing defenses honest and helps open up the play-action pass for oft-maligned pivot Jay Cutler. With Forte out, Cutler and the offense become extremely one-dimensional and predictable (also note that Chicago has many injuries to its receiving corps as well). Where Chicago has improved dramatically from the start of the season though is on the defensive side of the ball, the unit has allowed just 200 yards per game this season. The Bears have struggled against the run, but catch a break as the Chargers' rush unit has been weak this season. San Diego is having no issues on the offensive side of the ball, but has been letdown by its defense, something it will have a chance to rectify this week vs. the banged up Bears. Look for the Bolts to continue their hot pass rush against Cutler, a unit which has posted 19 sacks already. Veteran QB Philip Rivers has been awesome to this point, but his offense takes a big blow today with the loss of Keenan Allen, gone for the season with a lacerated kidney (note that Allen has accounted for 725 yards receiving and 4 touchdowns, and was their most potent offensive weapon). Note that Chicago has seen the total go UNDER the number in seven of its last ten after two or more consecutive SU losses, while San Diego has seen the total dip below the posted number in its last four home games when the total in the contest is greater than or equal to 49.5. Play on the UNDER.
