This is a 10* TOTAL ART OF WAR on the OVER between the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Colorado Avalanche.
For a number of different reasons we look for this total to eclipse the posted number as the game comes down the stretch. To say it'll be "all hands on deck" for the visiting side would be a bit of an understatement we think, as the Blue Jackets enter this one mired in the league's second-longest skid to open a campaign. After firing its head coach and hiring John Tortorella, the team looked much better in its 3-2 loss at Minnesota on Thursday and we look for that momentum to get carried over here: "We're (0-8-0); moral victories aren't going to help us right now," Tortorella assessed afterwards. "But for a number of minutes I thought we played hard." While these teams split last season's two meetings, note that Columbus won 4-3 at Colorado on January 4th. The Avs have issues of their own though and will clearly be looking to get untracked after scoring just once while dropping back-to-back one-goal decisions. No need to overanalyze this one because with both teams looking to get out and push the pace of this one from the outset, all signs do indeed point to a classic high-scoring shootout, play on the OVER.
