Point Spread: 14.50 | -105.00 Massachusetts (Home)
Result: Loss
This is an 8* DESTRUCTION on Massachusetts.
While we won't be so bold as to call for an outright upset, we will in the end recommend grabbing as many points as you can as we look for the home side to keep this one a lot more competitive than what the oddsmakers are leading us to believe. The Toledo Rockets come to town 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS, while Massachusetts is 1-5 SU and 2-4 ATS. If ever there was an opponent for the Rockets to "look past," surely it has to be the lowly Minutemen, especially with a game vs. NIU at home next weekend. Note that Toledo would win this game at home by just seven points last season. We won't try to convince you that UMass is a good team that's just been the victim of some bad beats or that Toledo is overrated in any way, we just feel that the situation this week overwhelmingly favors the underdog. It may come as a surprise, but the Minutemen are actually 15th in the nation in passing, inexplicably though they rank 104th in the country in points scored. This is a huge lop-sided discrepancy and we look for this anomaly to start correcting itself. Defensively Massachusetts is a mess, but as detailed above, we feel the team will catch a break today vs. a contented and complacent Toledo side which won't be able to help itself in looking ahead to its matchup next week. Also note that Toledo is just 4-5 ATS in its last nine as a favorite in the 10.5 to 21 points range, while Massachusetts is 10-5 ATS in its last 15 after two or more consecutive SU losses. Play on the MINUTEMEN.
