This is a 6* SITUATIONAL PITCHING MISMATCH on the Houston Astros.
The visitors hand the ball to Colin McHugh (15-7, 3.75 ERA) who dominated the Yanks last Wednesday, giving up two runs off five hits over 6 1/3's innings of work, walking just two compared to eight K's in the 6-2 victory. The surging McHugh would finish August with a 2-2, 1.89 ERA record in August and has to be feeling pretty confident that he can keep the momentum rolling in this one, note that he comes into this contest with a 9-4, 3.55 ERA "night" game record. The home side counters with Aaron Brooks (1-2, 6.91 ERA) who gave up two runs off eight hits over six innings in a victory over Arizona on Saturday. Note though that Brooks was shelled for eight runs over 1 2/3's innings in his previous start vs. the Jays and unfortunately for the hard-throwing right hander, this is a spot in which he's struggled mightily in already, just 1-1 with a 4.71 ERA at home and a poor 1-2 with a ballooned 6.75 ERA in all "night" games. We primarily base our MLB picks on starting pitching, "situations," motivation and scheduling and in this case, the overwhelming factors working in favor of McHugh and the ASTROS are just too good to turn down in this one.
