Point Spread: -35.00 | -107.00 Georgia (Home)
Result: Win
This is an 8* BLOCKBUSTER on Georgia.
The expectations are high for the Bulldogs entering the 2015/16 season, the team has been marked as the favorite to win the SEC East title. While the passing game will be a work in progress to open the year, the team is stacked at RB and is backed by one of the best defensive units in the country. Georgia also has one of the countries' toughest crossover schedules with games against Auburn and Alabama, meaning that these types of "cream puffs" become very important.
The Bulldogs:
Georgia will be leaning heavily upon RB Nick Chubb, who rushed for 1,547 yards while backing up Todd Gurley for five games. Chubb is expected to take a run at the Heisman this season, he'll benefit greatly from four starters returning from an offensive line which emerged as a strength for the team a year ago. Georgia though will have a competition for the QB position, as Brice Ramsey and Faton Bauta will be battling it out for the No. 1 spot. The defense will once again be a strength, with the potential to be a top-10 unit.
The Warhawks:
Louisiana Monroe has 13 players returning from last season's team and while a Sun Belt title is almost certainly out of the question, with 13 games on deck this year, a bowl game could be in the cards. Note that the Warhawks led the Sun Belt in passing last season, but ranked dead last in rushing, total offense and scoring. It's yet to be seen who will get the start under center, Brayle Brown is injury prone while Garrett Smith is a dual threat, but a bit rough around the edges. Whoever ends up winning the spot will be leaning heavily on Rashon Ceaser and Ajalen Holley, the most productive receiving duo in the conference. Inexperience on the line and at RB will be a clear weakness. The defense was a strong point last year and it has the potential to be even better this season, led by NT Gerrand Johnson and Mitch Lane; note that the unit more than doubled its sack total over the last two seasons in 2014/15.
The bottom line:
While the Warhawks have a lot to be optimistic about, the team will only go so far as the offense and a new starting pivot can take it. Suffice it to say, we expect this process to take a couple games, there's no doubt the unit draws an incredibly tough first match-up, it's not hard to imagine this team getting punched in the mouth early, folding up the tents and waving the white flag as it looks to escape without any significant injuries.
Georgia has a long road to reach the College Football Playoff, but it has the talent to get there. One game at a time. Look for a dominant performance on both sides of the ball as the BULLDOGS pull away down the stretch for the comfortable ATS cover.
