This is an 8* TOTAL ASSASSIN on the OVER between the Oakland Athletics and the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Jays are coming off a sweep of the New York Yankees and now have a chance to take over top spot in the AL East with another big effort. Amazingly, all three victories fell under the posted number in that series, but with a shift of venue and in familiar confines, we look for Toronto's bats to come alive here. The visitors hand the ball to Kendall Graveman (6-7, 3.90 ERA) who fell apart after being spotted a 3-1 lead in his last start, giving up three runs off six hits over 5 2/3's innings in a setback to the Orioles on Wednesday. Graveman has started to falter, he's just 1-3 with a pedestrian 4.84 ERA over his past six starts and that inconsistency spells trouble vs. the hard-hitting home side who counters with Drew Hutchinson (10-2, 5.42 ERA) who was shelled for seven runs off seven hits over five innings in a 9-7 decision over the Twins on Wednesday. Hutchinson's season ERA is not good and he's been even worse of late, he's given up four or more runs in five of his past six starts while posting a deplorable 7.17 ERA in that stretch. Of course, Hutch has been the massive beneficiary of the Jays' big bats. Recent performance is a great way to judge starting pitching and with each of these hurlers coming in struggling, all signs do indeed point to the OVER as the sharp move in this contest.
