This is a 7* BIG-CHALK RUN-LINE DESTRUCTION on the Arizona Diamondbacks.
If you've been following us for a while, it's not a big secret that when it comes to MLB handicapping, we primarily base our picks on starting pitching and while we wouldn't be shocked to see the visitors take Game 1 of this interleague contest, we feel a lot safer laying the price for the extra 1.5 runs of insurance. The Mariners have won four of six behind some timely hitting, but I think they'll have their hands full today facing the Diamondbacks' Robbie Ray (3-5, 2.72 ERA) who is coming off an outing to forget in which he gave up five runs over 4 2/3's innings in a 5-3 loss to the Fish on Wednesday. No need to throw the panic button if your a D-Backs fan though obviously, those types of starts happen to all pitchers over the course of a season, note that Ray had gone a blistering 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA in his prior two outings. And note that Ray hasn't given up an earned run over 14 2/3's innings spanning two starts vs. the AL this year. This sets up as a classic letdown spot for the M's, fresh off a big series victory over the visiting Blue Jays, they now have a quick turnaround vs. the opposite league and turn to rookie Mike Montgomery (4-4, 3.25 ERA) who is 0-2 with a 9.22 ERA over his last three starts, most recently getting shelled for eight runs over 2 2/3's innings in a 9-4 loss to the Tigers on Wednesday. More bad news for Montgomery and the home side, Arizona does in fact come in with some momentum after taking three of four from Milwaukee over the weekend. All signs do indeed point to the DIAMONDBACKS on the RUN-LINE as the savvy move in this contest.
