This is an 8* PITCHERS DUEL on the UNDER between the Chicago Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds.
The visitors hand the ball to Kyle Hendricks (4-4, 3.44 ERA) who had a solid outing in a no-decision vs. the Braves on Friday, giving up two runs off four hits over 5 2/3's innings, walking just one while striking out five. Note that Hendricks had a 20 1/3's scoreless innings streak come to an end after he'd posted shutouts in each of his previous three starts; and note, Hendricks has been sharp in this position all year, 3-2 with a 3.97 ERA on the road and 2-0 with a 3.33 ERA in all "day" games. The home side counters with Mike Leake (7-5, 3.95 ERA) who is also coming off a strong start on Friday, he'd give up one run off four this over six innings in his team's 6-1 win over the Tribe. Leake has steadily been getting better as the season has progressed and actually owns a sparkling 1.80 ERA over his last three starts. Leake has struggled in this spot this year, but he comes into this contest on top form and recent performance is always an important factor that I take into consideration when handicapping starting pitching. There's no reason not to think that these capable starters won't last into the latter frames and as such, all signs do indeed point to the UNDER as the savvy move in this contest.
