This is a 5* BIG-CHALK CHOKE-OUT on the San Francisco Giants.
Recent performance always plays a part in my handicapping process and there's no question that Madison Bumgarner has the upper-hand in that department today. The Giants look to rebound after yesterday's 8-0 setback, but note that San Francisco could hardly be worried about it as it's won 21 of 29 games in May and has a chance to conclude its most successful month in 61 years with a victory today. The home side hands the ball to Bumgarner (6-2, 3.00 ERA), who is 5-1 with a highly respectable 2.15 ERA in his last seven starts, most recently giving up three runs over six frames in his team's 6-3 win at Milwaukee on Tuesday. Note that the southpaw has not given up a run in two of his last three in front of the home town crowd and has posted a tiny 1.80 ERA while winning four straight starts against the Braves. Atlanta counters with Julio Teheran (4-2, 4.91 ERA) who gave up eight runs and ten hits over 4 1/3's innings of an 8-0 loss at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday; and note that Teheran is a pedestrian 3-3 with a 3.86 ERA vs. San Francisco lifetime. Sometimes a favorite is a favorite for a reason and in my professional opinion, the GIANTS and Bumgarner should in fact be much bigger ones.
