The Brewers are starting to show signs of life, both on the mound and at the plate and I think that momentum gets carried over here. The Brew Crew is 2-1 under coach Craig Counsell and has a chance to win another series after yesterday's 6-3 victory over the Dodgers. In fact, the pitching staff owns a 3.05 ERA during a 5-2 stretch, and Mike Fiers will get the call today; Fiers is just 1-3 with a 4.74 ERA but would strike out 12 and give up three hits and one home run over six frames in his team's eventual 6-1 road win over Chicago on Saturday. Also note that Fiers has dominated the Dodgers throughout his career, over three previous appearances, including two starts, he's given up just two runs over 16 2/3's innings of work. Fiers' offense has quietly starting to get untracked which is bad news for Carlos Frias in my opinion; Frias won his first game as a starter on Friday, defeating Arizona 8-0, but note that he struggled with Milwaukee in three relief appearances vs. it last year, giving up five runs over six frames. In my opinion, the book is still clearly out on Frias. I'm giving Fiers the slight nod on the bump, the BREWERS the slight nod at the plate and that's more than enough to tip the scales in their favor.
