This is a 5* play on the Washington Nationals.
Despite a pretty decent performance in his debut for his new team, Max Scherzer suffered the 3-1 defeat to the Mets last week and suffice it to say, I look for the hard-throwing right hander to come in ultra-focused this afternoon. Scherzer would give up the three runs, none earned, off of four hits with eight K's over 7 2/3's innings of work. The All-Star looked great early as well, he'd go five frames without allowing a hit: "I pounded the zone today. I fell behind two hitters," Scherzer said afterwards. "So from that standpoint, that what's encouraging to see, that I'm attacking the zone with all my pitches." I think the Phillies will have their hands full, note that Scherzer was 9-3 with a 2.88 ERA in all "day games" a season ago. His counterpart today is Sean O'Sullivan, who actually has five years MLB experience, but who worked just 12 2/3's innings in the majors last year for Philadelphia; note that O'Sullivan owns a poor 5.91 career ERA over 231 1/3 total big-league innings. A tough spot start for O'Sullivan, this is the matchup that Scherzer and the NATIONALS have been waiting for, lay the price with confidence.
