This is a 10* TOTAL EXPRESS on the OVER between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Washington Capitals.
Neither team has been playing to very many high-scoring games of late, but I think all the conditions are right for a shootout and expect this total to eclipse the posted number as the game comes down the stretch. Both teams come in highly motivated and I think that focus and determination will translate into production on the ice. Washington is pushing for a fourth straight win, while the Flyers are playing with desperation as they look to make up ground in the Eastern Conference Playoff race. Washington is most recently coming off a 3-2 shootout victory over the Ducks on Friday. The Capitals have been getting spectacular goaltending, but I think Braden Holtby will have his hands full today with this hungry Philadelphia team, the Flyers have actually scored on 23.3 percent of their man-advantage opportunities. The visitors will play with revenge today as well after Holtby blanked them in a 1-0 loss back on January 14th. Philadelphia will also be eager to get back to its winning ways after a 3-2 shootout loss to the Islanders on Thursday. Note that Philadelphia has seen the total go OVER the number in 14 of 25 vs. teams with winning records, while Washington has seen it sail above the posted number in 11 of its last 18 after playing to three or more consecutive UNDERS. In my opinion the writing is on the wall and a shootout is in the cards, all signs do indeed point to the OVER as the savvy move in this one.
