This is a 10* WESTERN-CONFERENCE TOTAL OF THE YEAR on the UNDER between the Edmonton Oilers and the St. Louis Blues.
Both of these teams have been playing to some pretty high-scoring affairs of late, but I think that the writing is on the wall and a hard-nosed defensive battle is in the cards, when the smoke clears at the end of this one, I'm fully expecting this total to stay below the posted number. St. Louis is rolling, it's won four straight, totaling 24 goals during the win skein, including a 5-4 shootout win over Carolina on Saturday. The Blues have outscored the Oilers 21-7 in winning the last four in the series. These two teams also played to a high-scoring game already this year, St. Louis would notch the 4-3 OT win at home on November 28th. The cards are stacked against an Edmonton team which will try to avenge that loss but also end a miserable 0-6-6 road slide. Edmonton will be especially motivated here to atone for a 4-2 home loss to Florida on Saturday. But beating Blues' goaltender Brian Elliot will be easier said than done; note Elliot leads the league with a 1.95 GAA this year. Both Oilers' goaltenders have struggled this year, but take note that Edmonton has seen the total go UNDER the number in nine of 14 this year after a loss by 2 goals or more and in six of nine after playing three consecutive home games. And note that St. Louis has seen the total dip below the posted number in 17 of its last 29 after a three game unbeaten streak. In my opinion, all signs do indeed point to the UNDER as the sharp move here.
