This is an 8* ASSASSIN on East Carolina.
For a number of different reasons I think that the Pirates will pull away down the stretch for the comfortable ATS cover. Granted, UCF bounced back nicely after a road loss to lowly UConn to beat three other teams in the bottom thrid of the AAC, but I believe will have its hands full today with an equally as focused and determined home side. A contrast of styles today as UCF boasts the league's best scoring, passing and total defense, while East Carolina feature's the conference's highest-scoring and most prolific offensive unit. Bottom line is, I simply can't see the Knights keeping pace with the Pirates today, they were held to less than 400 total yards for the first time in five games last week in the 16-0 shutout of lowly USF. So despite how good the Knights are defensively, in my opinion their offensive inconsistencies will be the difference today, note the East Carolina actually ranks third in the nation in passing and also continues to get solid production from the ground game, a unit which posted 172 rushing yards in last week's 49-32 destruction of Tulsa. Defensively the Pirates had a letdown, but it's definitely significant to note that East Carolina has allowed 26 points in the fourth quarter of conference play this year and holds a 130-57 edge over their opponents in the final 15 minutes. From a trend based stand point, this is also a very strong play in my opinion, note that UCF is just 2-2 ATS on the road this year and just 8-9 ATS in the same position over the last two. And note that ECU is 3-2 ATS at home this year and 11-5 ATS in the same position over the last two. While East Carolina has struggled ATS the last few weeks, I think the conditions and situation are finally right for this team to return to its early season dominant form; play on the PIRATES.
