This is an 8* ASSASSIN on Northern Illinois.

While I won't go so far as to call for an outright victory here I do think that NIU is getting little respect and expect it to put up a much bigger fight than what the oddsmakers are leading us to believe; this is a great "situational" play. WMU has been fantastic this year, it's 8-3 overall, including 6-1 in the Mid-American Conference; just last year the Broncos finished the season 1-11. Suffice it to say, entering this contest on a six-game win streak, I believe Western Michigan comes in a bit complacent today. WMU is getting national attention now and these young players are dealing without outside media and hype on a level that they've never faced before in their careers; this is invariably a recipie for disaster and one which I feel that the Huksies (and us!), can take advantage of. In my opinion, the Broncos are not a power in the MAC, far from it in fact. Before WMU can be mentioned in the same breath as Northern Illinois or Toledo, obviously the team has to show that it can win consistently, against lesser competition, but also in the big games. NIU always gets everyone's "best shot" in the MAC because of its success over the last seven years, but in a way the tables are turned here. The Huskies aren't the same team as in years past, but have still looked pretty solid this year and now have a chance to play spoiler, coming into Kalamazoo with a big psychological advantage. Note, already 2-1 ATS as an underdog this year, Northern Illinois is 5-3 ATS in the same position over the last two; and note that Western Michigan is (despite its success this season), still just 7-8 ATS in its last 15 in front of the home town crowd. I feel that all of the conditions are right for a very tight game, grab as many points as you can with NORTHERN ILLINOIS.
