This is an 8* BLOCKBUSTER on the Chicago Bears.
The Bears are coming off back-to-back blowout losses and I think will come out with a collective chip on their shoulders and find a way to get the job done in front of the home town crowd this afternoon. A game in Chicago vs. the Vikes is just what the doctor ordered for the Bears to get untracked. Note that Chicago has not lost four straight since a five-game skid in 2011: "This has been a very disturbing stretch of three weeks," head coach Marc Trestman assessed earlier in the week. "There's no doubt about it. But we're focused in and the only way we can work our way out of this is to go get ready for Minnesota." It's true that Chicago has been annihilated two games in a row, but a 51-23 setback to a red hot Tom Brady and a 55-14 rout at Green Bay vs. an equally as smoking Aaron Rodgers can at least be somehow understood in some small way. A third straight poor effort vs. a Minnesota team which is down key pieces on both sides of the ball would be 100% unforgiveable, and would result in coaching and managerial changes. So despite all the struggles, note that if history is any precedence, then Chicago has to be loving its chances today as it's taken 12 of the last 13 in front of the home town crowd in this series. Minnesota is still unsure if RB Adrian Peterson will be playing (as of writing), or if TE Kyle Rudolph will suit up (as of writing). QB Teddy Bridgewater and RB Jerick McKinnon have been a couple of bright spots in helping the team secure back-to-back fourth quarter comebacks, however I think the Vikes' bye-week could not have come at a worse time and believe that the chemistry between these young players gets disrupted because of it. Bears' QB Jay Cutler has been bad of late, but has had a ton of success vs. the Vikes in the past, throwing 13 TD's and six picks in winning all five home meetings vs. them; Cutler will surely be happy to see WR Brandon Marshall suiting up today after tweaking his ankle last week. Note that Chicago RB Matt Forte averaged 156 yards from scrimmage in the two meetings vs. Minnesota last year. And note that Minnesota is 0-2 ATS the last two seasons following its bye week, while Chicago is 5-3 ATS in its last eight after two or more consecutive SU losses. Desperation breeds motivation, I look for CHICAGO to pull away down the stretch for the comfortable ATS cover.
