Sean Higgs has your Friday College Football contest this week features the 6-3 Washington Huskies traveling to Pasadena to take on the 7-2 UCLA Bruins. This game will be featured on ESPN 2 and right now, the #15 ranked UCLA Bruins sit as a 2.5 favorite over the visitors. This game has some implications for the PAC 12 title, as the Bruins sit at 4-2 in conference a game behind Arizona State who they face next week. The Huskies are bowl eligible but can not catch Stanford or Oregon, both tied atop the PAC 12 North.
I like Huskies HC Steve Sarkisian. I think this is his most talented group since coming over from USC. I will tell you that in my pre-season PAC 12 preview that I thought with the amount of starters returning, this squad would be good. But still not good enough to over take Oregon and Stanford. I did have Stanford winning this side of the conference ahead of Oregon.
QB Keith Price doesn't get much press, but the kid has tossed 18TDs to just 4INTs on the year. He spreads the ball out well to his WRs and has a tough RB to help take the load off things in Bishop Sankey who has rushed for over 1300 yards at nearly 6 yards a carry and has 13TDs. The offense is a top 10 unit and the defense isn't terrible giving up 21ppg. For all the love that UCLA has been getting, Washington has the better 'numbers' of both units.
Now we have UCLA off a crazy win last week. Their freshman LB came in to RUSH for 120 yards and also gave them 8 tackles and a defensive fumble recovery! Some people might think that is normal, but I don't. Who are these guys? The Texas State Armadillos from the movie Necessary Roughness playing 2-way football! Is the QB 40 year old Paul Blake?
I can't knock Jim Mora because he has had the golden touch this season with this team. They are knocking on the door to win their 2nd straight PAC 12 South Title. He is obviously doing something right.
This is my thinking for tonight's match-up. We have the Huskies who haven't played well in this series, 4-9 ATS last 13, 3-11 SU over that time. Washington is also just 4-10 ATS last 10 on the road. They enter facing a tough Bruins team that could be looking ahead to next weeks game. This Huskies team scored 28 points in the 2nd half last week WITHOUT throwing a pass!
My final thought as we take the WASHINGTON HUSKIES tonight is this. When I see a home team at home favored by a FG or less I always investigate. When that home team is ranked I look closer. When they are playing an unranked team I get warm and fuzzy inside! One of the true gifts from the lines-makers. The public will bet this game up to 3 so you can sit and wait on the points. Sprinkle some ML +120. Stuff that Thanksgiving turkey with CASH MONEY $
