Stephen Nover's Free WNBA Thursday Play
(WNBA) Sparks (LA) vs. Liberty (NY),
Point Spread: -14.50 | -105.00 Liberty (NY) (Home)
Result: Loss
I see this as a kill spot for New York. Of course the oddsmaker sees it that way, too, because of the large point spread. But it's more than just the 12-3 Liberty, with their superstar trio of Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu and Jonquel Jones, being one of the two best teams in the WNBA right now and the 4-11 Sparks being one of the worst in the league.

There's also a strong situational element and a very bad injury for Los Angeles.

New York had won eight in a row until losing this past Tuesday to the underdog Mercury in Phoenix. The Liberty were in a flat spot having defeated Las Vegas in a revenge, grudge match during their previous game. The Aces had beaten the Liberty in the WNBA Finals last season.

Now the Liberty is back home, catching the Sparks playing their fifth game in 10 days - all of which have been on the road. LA is 1-7 on the road. The Sparks have lost the first four games of their current trip with the average losing margin being 10.7 points.

Making matters even worse for the Sparks is center Cameron Brink, the No. 2 overall pick in the draft this year, went down with a torn ACL in LA's last game. Without Brink's stellar interior defense, the Sparks basically are composed of one good player, Dearica Hamby, and a bunch of role players.

Unless the Liberty are flat, I don't see the Sparks preventing a blowout loss. And there's no reason for New York to be flat.

(Editor's note: Stephen Nover won his WNBA free Wednesday play on the Aces and also cashed his premium play today with the Under in the Wings-Sky game to move his season record to 22-10 on his premium/free WNBA plays this year. Stephen destroys niche sports. He has a premium play today in the Canadian Football League game between Ottawa and Montreal looking to move his CFL hot streak to 18-6 on his last 24 plays and stay unbeaten this year.)
