Detroit won four of Keider Montero's August starts, and three of those were as heavy underdogs. He has a lower ERA on the road and a 3.53 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in night games this season, as well. Detroit is 4-1 in his five starts away from Comerica Park.
San Diego will rely on Yu Darvish, who has been out since late May due to injuries and a personal matter. While the Friar Faithful will be encouraged by his return to the mound, I'm less optimistic he's worth all the juice. Darvish allowed ten runs on 15 hits in his final two starts, including four home runs, which were home losses to the Yankees and Marlins.
The Padres' bullpen gets all the hype but the Tigers' bullpen sports a lower ERA and WHIP this season. Considering both teams were off on Tuesday, I don't believe San Diego has as significant of a pitching advantage as the odds suggest.
