The Astros won the first two games of the series by a combined score of 16-7 and are favored on Wednesday, but I'm giving the edge to Boston in Thursday's series finale.
Red Sox starter Brayan Bello is coming off an encouraging start against New York, holding the Yanks to one run in six frames. Only 24 years old, he's already an above-average starter brimming with upside. He's held 17 of his 21 opponents to three or fewer runs and sports a 100:31 K:BB ratio in his first full big league season.
Astros starter J.P. France didn't have his best stuff in his last start, giving up seven hits and two homers in a loss to Seattle. That broke a streak of five consecutive victories for the 28-year-old. I expect some of those issues will carry over into Thursday's outing.
The Red Sox hit .264 BA/.325 OBP/.441 SLG/.767 OPS vs. right-handers and average 4.9 runs in day games this season. They haven't scored in Houston like they did in their last series in the Bronx, but I'm confident they'll find their groove tomorrow. With a quality start from Bello, there's no reason why the Bo-Sox can't win straight-up!
