Montreal will be without QB Fajardo and Caleb Evans will take his spot. They are off a bye so they have had time to get some reps in with him, but he is prone to throwing more interceptions when he has started. This game features the two top defenses in the league, but on offense, there are some key players out for both teams in this game, but both have capable back ups in their receiving rooms to fill in the holes. Saskatchewan is number one against the run and that is not good news for Montreal if they can’t get the run game going in this game under QB Evans. QB Shea Patterson has one road start under his belt but that was against the BC Lions; a game they lost and didn’t cover the spread in. However, Montreal is 2-5 straight up against Saskatchewan and now they face one of the best defenses, and QB Patterson who is still decent for the Riders in this spot looking for his first road win. With both backup quarterbacks in this game, the injuries on both sides, this should be a more defensive battle and a much closer more even game. The Riders are 5-1 straight up and against the spread while Montreal is 5-1 straight up but 3-3 against the spread. So Montreal is not as good in covering the spread and have shown they have struggled against Saskatchewan in the past. The Alouettes are 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 games following a ATS loss. So far after seven weeks in the CFL, underdogs of 3.5 to 6.5 points are 13-3 against the spread so far. There is value in taking Saskatchewan and the points as this game may be decided by a field goal.
Best bet: take Saskatchewan and the points.
