Money Line: 110.00 Yankees (NYY) (Away)
Result: Loss
The Yankees are coming into this game with a hot offense in their recent games. They beat the Guardians 4-1 in the ALCS and they scored 5+ runs in all 5 of those games. They are going up against a Dodgers team that has also been very hot on offense recently, scoring 6+ runs in each of their last 4 games, but they also needed 6 games to beat out the Mets. The Dodgers were much better at home this season at 52-29, but the Yankees were also much better on the road at 50-31. Both of these teams have had 2 of the better offenses in the league all season so the pitching is going to be very important in this game, and the Yankees have the advantage in that department. Gerrit Cole is starting for the Yankees in this game and he is 8-5 with a 3.41 ERA this season. He struggled in his 1st playoff start this season, allowing 3 earned runs against the Royals in a 6-5 win for his team, but he has settled down since that start. He has only allowed 3 earned runs total in 11.1 innings pitched over his last 2 starts in the playoffs. He allowed 2 earned runs in his last start, but the Yankees still won that game and they have been backing him up with run support as well, scoring 6+ runs in 3 of his last 4 starts going back to the regular season as well. Jack Flaherty is starting for the Dodgers in this game and he is 13-7 with a 3.17 ERA this season. He had a great season for the Tigers this year, but he started to struggle a lot more when he was traded to the Dodgers. He has been awful in the playoffs as well, allowing at least 4 earned runs in 2 of his 3 starts. He allowed 4 earned runs in a little over 5 innings against the Padres in the NLDS, losing that game 10-2, but then he followed up with a good start which he allowed no runs in 7 innings against the Mets in a 9-0 win. Later in that series against the Mets, they had a chance to end the series in game 5 and Flaherty completely blew it, allowing 8 earned runs in just 3 innings. He also gave up 8 hits in that game and had no strikeouts. He has not seen the Yankees this season, but the Yankees have one of the better offenses in the league and they have been scoring a lot of runs throughout the playoffs so they are going to score runs in this game, and the Yankees will be pushing to win this game right off the bat so they can at least guarantee a split from these 2 road games and have a chance to win the series back at home. The Yankees will win this game.
