The Guardians are coming into this game with a 59-39 record this season, but they have not been playing well out of the break. They won their 1st game back against the Padres 7-0, but they lost their last 2 and only scored 1 run total in those 2 games. They also allowed 9 runs between the 2 games and they have not been playing well recent;ly going back to before the break, losing 6 of their last 8 games which includes a series loss against the Tigers 3-1 a little over a week ago. They are going up against a Tigers team that is 49-51 this season and has been playing very well recently. They are coming off of a close 5-4 loss against the Blue Jays on Sunday but they won the other 2 games in that series coming out of the break, and they have also won 4 of their last 5 as well as 6 of their last 8 games with a series win against the Dodgers just prior to the break as well. They scored 16 runs in their 3 games back from the break and they have been heating up offensively while the Guardians have struggled. Tarik Skubal is starting for the Tigers in this game and he is 10-3 with a 2.41 ERA this season. He allowed 2 earned runs in his last start and has allowed 2 earned runs or less in each of his last 2 as well as 3 of his last 4 starts. He has been their best starter all season and even in his last 2 starts, he racked up 21 strikeouts total while only allowing 5 hits between the 2 starts. Carlos Carrasco is starting for the Guardians in this game and he is 3-7 with a 5.02 ERA this season. He has been pitching better in his recent starts, but he has still allowed at least 3 earned runs in 2 of his last 3 starts and that will get his team into trouble here. Skubal has not been allowing many runs this season so the Guardians are already going to have a tough time scoring here, and their offense has not been good recently as well. The Tigers are not going to need many runs to win this game and Carrasco will give those runs up. The Tigers have also been scoring a lot more runs than the Guardians since the restart, and the Tigers have a very good bullpen to back Skubal up as well. The Guardians have struggled with the Tigers recently and this will be another game they struggle in with the way they have played coming out of the break. The Tigers will win this game.
